Isn’t your camel important while crossing a desert?
You must be still wondering about the relevance of above question. While the answer is quite simple and clear i.e. of course YES, the intention behind asking this need a little elaboration. It is quite clear that productivity, efficiency, and power only can sail you through the desert. But we keep forgetting this when it comes to our life. Replace the ‘camel’ with body and ‘dessert’ to life. What do you get? ISN’T YOUR BODY IMPORTANT WHILE CROSSING LIFE?
As per WHO almost half of the world’s population has become obese...!
Non communicable diseases (NCD), say differently lifestyle diseases has become
largest cause of death. Almost 70% of global deaths are happening due to NCDs.
In India 63 million people in India has become diabetic...!
Consider crossing a dessert on a fat sick camel having tablets to walk
another couple of miles…! Aren’t you doing same with your own life? I am amazed
to see poor health and obesity becoming so common place today. None other than
our lifestyle, attitude, and unfounded priorities to be blamed. Sports among
kids have taken a back seat as they go higher in their classes. I remember I
wanted to run on soil one fine day but I had to satisfy with concrete road at
last. I was unable to find a playground of decent size.
Imagine your car has become fat,
double its weight when it was out from factory. Will we tolerate such a car? I
wonder how one tolerates his own body. Being healthy does not ask hell of your
time, money, or attention. It’s a matter of priority I believe. We human beings
are attuned to address urgent matters only. Only few highly successful people
do not run after urgent matters in life like a headless chicken ignoring to
plan for important but not urgent works.
For most of us, in our young age, health is not urgent rather it is an
important area. Hence, as usual an ignored area, as urgent matters take most of
our time and energy. Although It is
prudent to prioritise our time in order of quadrant 1 - 2 - 3 – 4 in below
picture but most of us are busy with
quadrant 1- 3 matters and quadrant 2 takes a back seat.
We don’t feel the pinch immediately but eventually the aftermaths start kicking
in, but by the time, we accept the reality of a sick body. We readily accept it
in few days as everybody around us is doing the same. But friends, it’s a
vicious cycle. Work and stress lead to
busy schedule which triggers unhealthy lifestyle. Unhealthy lifestyle makes us
un- productive which leads to further crunch on our time.
Consider this… if you are compromising your health for other
possessions… you are bartering worldly possessions for your divine asset which
is your body.
